One of the patron deities of Carthage, He is a sun and fertility God who is the consort of the Goddess Tanit. He is reputed to have been a blood thirsty God who favors the ritual sacrifice of children. He is also the protector of government and of continuity through progeny. He is the guardian of eternal values.
Baal Hammon is depicted in Phoenician robes and wears a tall, conical headdress. He is bearded and holds an upright spear in His left hand while His right is held in a gesture of blessing. He is usually flanked by two sphinxes.
He is also known as Aleyn-baal.
