Portunus is an ancient Roman God and had his own flamen. Originally, he may have been a protector of portals or of the ferry across the Tiber. He eventually became the protector of harbors.
His festival, the Protunalia, was celebrated on August 17. Not much is known about this festival other than it might have involved keys and doors.
He is often depicted with a key in his hand.
He is also known by the following names:
Melicertes (Greek), Palaemon
These days are sacred to Him:
August 17 - Portunalia
